"The Day My Dad Died" by Veronica Zavala

This happened in Mexico, my dad was very sick in the hospital. I and my sisters were here in Utah. My mom called us and told us that my dad said to tell us that he wanted us to go to Mexico because he knew he was about to die. So that same day we went with my aunt to buy tickets to leave. We left in the night and got to Mexico. As soon as we got there we went to the hospital that my dad was at. When we got there we waited for five minutes to see him. We walked in the room that he was in, and we all started to cry. He looked at us with a sad face. He couldn’t talk or move because it would hurt him. So I got out of the room because I couldn’t see him, it hurt me seeing him like that. My sister didn’t want him in that hospital because they really wouldn’t do anything to him. So they called the ambulance and took him to another hospital. My mom and older sister were the only ones that went in the ambulance with him, so me and my other sister had to go back to my aunt’s house. In the night my mom and sister came back, and my aunt had stayed with my dad. It was around twelve in the morning my aunt called my mom and told her my dad had died. My mom started to cry and said “Your dad died” we all started to cry. My uncles took him to the house in a coffin so we could all see him. Me and my sisters were the first ones to see him. When we were done looking at him we opened the coffin and we all gave him our last kiss. We got out of the house so all my aunt’s could see him. The Other day’s people prayed till eight days. After the eight days some guys buried him, me and my 12 year old sister were the only ones that went, my mom and older sister didn’t want to go they felt really bad. The day after they buried him we all went back to Utah.
